Harriet Slaughterhas had careers as an actress, singer, dancer, arts administrator painter and poet, with a BFA from the University of Texas and a MFA from NYU. She has appeared in among others, Inherit the Wind, King Lear, The King and I, Man of La Mancha and Fiddler on the Roof. She served as senior executive for Town Hall, Actors' Equity Association and the Broadway League where she was trustee on numerous entertainment pension and health funds. She produced the Women in Theatre TV series on CUNY-TV for the League of
Professional Theatre Women.
. She has curated two exhibitions at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center also for LPTW.
She is a frequent featured reader in venues in New York City and Long Island. She recently published a book of poetry and art images, ARS POETICA which is available on Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble. During her readings she references her art work, along with her poetry. Her poetry has appeared in several poetry anthologies and she has received the Scroll Award from the Angels Without Wings Foundation.
Her art work has appeared in juried shows and galleries in New York City and Long Island.
